We should probably set up a matrix account, and some automation in the updater script to notify us when it goes poorly so I know to go looking and get pinged.

yeah, exactly. rough order of operations: we should use that matrix server, create a #bots room or something, create a bot account, save the password in the gitrepo so it can be used as a secret, and then send a message directly to that specific channel using the creds.
We can then reuse the creds for any other bot account.
I once wrote a script that does something similar (publish to matrix from a bot account) so hopefully i can find it and re-use it.
We’ve got the commons computer matrix. If we need multiple things we can just make a shared commons computer account and share password?
