···+Just saw that [Meetup was acquired by Bending Spoons](https://www.meetup.com/blog/a-new-home-for-meetup/). This is the same company that acquired Evernote.+For me, Meetup is the epitome of platform capture. I won't use it for anything I organize. [[Luma]] is what I use, but just for RSVP / attendance, and I can export email as needed.

It's probably a good time to repost my Spatial Computing article from last June

···+> FacilMap is a privacy-friendly, open-source versatile online map that combines different services based on [[OpenStreetMap]]+<iframe style="height: 500px; width: 100%; border: none;" src="https://facilmap.org/mymap"></iframe>+> A collaborative map is a map that can be reached under its own unique URL. Users can add markers, lines, routes and various other things to the map, and if multiple people are working on it simultaneously, they all see each others’ changes instantly. Think of it like an [[Etherpad]], just for maps.+> Every collaborative map has 3 URLs, an admin URL, an editable URL and a read-only URL. Accessing the map through its different URLs will show the same map with the same data, but depending through which URL a user opened the map, they will have different permissions what to do with it. The URL of the map acts as the password to access it: Anyone who has the admin URL will have the ability to administrate the map.+> - [Embed FacilMap](https://docs.facilmap.org/developers/embed.html) into any website using an iframe.+> - Use the [FacilMap client](https://docs.facilmap.org/developers/client/) to programmatically access and modify data on a collaborative map.+> - Use the [Leaflet components](https://docs.facilmap.org/developers/leaflet/) to embed certain feature of FacilMap into a Leaflet map.+> - Use the [FacilMap frontend](https://docs.facilmap.org/developers/frontend/) to embed an extended or modified version of FacilMap into a website.+> - Read about the [dev setup](https://docs.facilmap.org/developers/development/dev-setup.html) to start contributing to the FacilMap code.

···+Luma makes it very easy to RSVP for free events online or in person, without having to go through a long sign up process.+It has very complete email update and notification features. By default, it will send an email the day before and then the hour before an events start time, but can be customized.+For shared, curated calendars, you can also send newsletters to all those that are subscribed to the calendar.+It is a proprietary platform, but it does have an API and can be embedded as both individual events or entire calendars. I think of it mostly as like a "Substack for Events". I can export the email addresses of attendees and import them elsewhere.+I've asked the team to add an option to map domains to calendars -- so I could do `calendar.example.com` -- as another way to not just send links to someone else's platform.+[[Fission]] calendar: <https://lu.ma/fission>, as well as embedded at <https://fission.codes/events>>+[[DWebYVR]] calendar: <https://lu.ma/dwebyvr>, as well as embedded at <https://dwebyvr.org/wiki/Calendar>
