We shut down Fission as of April 2024. [Read the farewall](https://fission.codes/blog/farewell-from-fission/).

We're building the [Everywhere Computer](https://everywhere.computer)

> Imagine us individually as a swarm of bees, and Fission as a “human suit” that gives us the appearance of a single entity. The swarm still exists. And will continue to find new forms. Meanwhile, we’ll all still be doing whatever swarms of bees do.

I'm going to use the term Local AI to refer to a wide group of subjects. Some of it is local model training, some of it is local inference, some of it is decentralized compute.
+
+
And, local in the sense of local, geographic areas
+
+
## How can local communities use AI?
+
+
+
Is this connected to the [[DWeb]] movement and principles?
+
## Mozilla Fellow
+
+
I'm applying to be a Mozilla Fellow, which this year's [call for proposals is focused on Trustworthy AI](https://foundation.mozilla.org/en/what-we-fund/fellowships/senior-fellows/call-for-proposals/):
+
+
> For 25 years, Mozilla has existed to protect and promote the internet as a global public resource, open and accessible to all. Our vision is rooted in the [Mozilla Manifesto](https://www.mozilla.org/about/manifesto/), anchored by _openness, agency_ and _accountability_, and focused on [trustworthy AI](https://blog.mozilla.org/en/mozilla/ai/next-steps-for-mozilla-and-trustworthy-ai/)_._ Mozilla’s [Senior Fellowship Program](https://foundation.mozilla.org/what-we-fund/fellowships/senior-fellows/) brings together experts advancing trustworthy AI and promoting an ethical, responsible and inclusive internet environment.

You may have heard that I'm [winding down](https://fission.codes/blog/farewell-from-fission/) [[Fission]] as of April 2024.
+
+
I'm talking to lots of people, exploring a few different things:
+
* I applied to [Summer of Protocols](https://summerofprotocols.com) (didn't get accepted!) with some ideas around [[Community Search Engines]]. Still exploring other opportunities for this.
+
* I'm also going to apply to be a Mozilla Fellow, with some ideas around [[Local AI]]
+
+
Interested in [[Proto Apps]] and want to do some work on [[Open Frames]] -- bringing [[Farcaster Frames]] to [[ActivityPub]] and [[Bluesky]].
+
+
Going to see about [[Causal Islands]] regional events. First up, [[Causal Islands Berlin]].
+
+
I'm in a new co-working space in Gastown, [[Z Space]]. Still based in Vancouver.
+
+
Here is a list of some [[2024 Events]] that I'm keeping track of / organizing / might attend.

This is a [Now page](https://nownownow.com/about):
+

> So a website with a link that says “**now**” goes to a page that tells you **what this person is focused on at this point in their life.** For short, we call it a “now page”.

Founder [[Kevin Fischer]] intro video at [[Betaworks]], September 2023:
+
+
> It’s time to unstealth the worst kept secret on a Twitter - that I’m building a company to give AI a soul, [@OpenSoulsPBC](https://twitter.com/OpenSoulsPBC)
+
>
+
> Last week [@betaworks](https://twitter.com/betaworks) , I illustrated just how we’re going to imbue AI with the indescribable essence of humanity. Many people have called me crazy over the last year, and the audience was no exception - the room didn’t have many believers before I started speaking. But by the end of the demo, every person in the audience was dead certain they had just been a part of a historic moment in humanity’s relationship with machines.
+
>
+
> And now, I invite you to witness part of that same pivotal moment - a mock zoom firing call between two Open Souls, running live on stage
