Capturing a link to [Obsidian Map View Plugin](https://github.com/esm7/obsidian-map-view), since it came up in discussion. Open source, uses [[OpenStreetMap]] and open map tiles for search and display.

My exploration on [[Boris Map]] is mostly for [[FoodWiki]] purposes. I use basic tagging for notes pages if I want to capture e.g. that a person entry is in _Vancouver_.

The [Perplexity AI summary of 'what is OpenStreetMap?'](https://www.perplexity.ai/search/What-is-OpenStreetMap-2pVFODzPR8OVT0OC6sZc7A?s=u) is pretty good. Cites sources and summarizes and synthesizes. I didn't add this to my notes entry for [[OpenStreetMap]] directly, but did link the source web pages and quote text from the sources.

Brought to my attention by [@django@cosocial.ca's post](https://cosocial.ca/@Django/111811943859262877) linking to [Michael Geist's article on Bill S-210](https://www.michaelgeist.ca/2024/01/site-blocking-and-age-verification-for-twitter-instagram-snap-and-twitch-age-verification-lobby-confirms-it-wants-bill-s-210-to-cover-all-social-media-sites/), and that it may apply to the fediverse as well:
+
+
> the unlimited scope of the Canadian law to sites such as Twitter, Snap, Instagram, Twitch and many others is no accident. If the lead lobby group behind the legislation gets its way, it is the stated goal of Bill S-210 to require all Canadians to undergo an age verification system in order to access content on general purpose sites with the threat of penalties and site blocking awaiting those sites that refuse to comply.

[Antikythera](https://antikythera.org/) is a think tank reorienting planetary computation as a technological, philosophical, and geopolitical force.
+
+
> Through interdisciplinary design studios, salons, and publications, Antikythera researches and develops speculative scenarios that build a philosophy of technology to catch up to the present. Antikythera is incubated by the [Berggruen Institute](https://antikythera.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=7bda58c0ed846c478501b611e&id=45f52286b0&e=02eac2d385), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization shaping ideas for the 21st century.

## Future of Multipolar Computation
+
+
https://antikythera.org/hemispherical-stacks#fmc
+
+
> The shift toward multipolar geopolitics and the segmentation of planetary computation into hemispherical stacks not only track one another; they are the same phenomenon.
+
>
+
> As part of the Hemispherical Stacks research area, Antikythera is launching an interdisciplinary virtual working group comprised of 12–20 selected researchers who will meet monthly between May and December 2024 to think through key themes and work on potential near-term future scenarios that involve a number of issues related to planetary computation and geopolitics.
+
>
+
> Participants will include writers and researchers with expertise in technology, international relations, science-fiction, design, geopolitics, law, and any other relevant areas who will be evolving research and scenario development that takes the form of presentations, papers, and other media projects. Each working group participant will be supported with a research stipend. Outcomes may be included in one or more of Antikythera’s publication platforms with MIT Press.

> [OpenStreetMap](https://openstreetmap.org/) is a free, editable map of the whole world made by people like you. It was started in 2004 in the UK, out of frustration with the lack of availability of good map data that was free to use.

Run by the [OpenStreetMap Foundation](https://welcome.openstreetmap.org/about-osm-community/osm-foundation/):
+
> OpenStreetMap is not a closely governed or managed project; grassroots activities are the core of the movement, and individuals participating in OpenStreetMap enjoy great freedom. The OpenStreetMap Foundation is the nonprofit organization that supports OpenStreetMap and provides the necessary organizational backbone. It is made up of a number of different members and groups.
